Campaign: Study Scents

Of the five human scents, smell is the one most connected to memory. You’ve probably experienced it yourself, smelling a certain food or perfume and suddenly being struck with potent memories, as clear as if they happened yesterday. We wanted to harness that power to help students nail their exams.

We created a set of five pens with spray nozzles, each containing a unique scent, with the name of a subject on the outside. Packs were personalised to match the five subjects each student was taking. Then, each time a student studied science, for example, they’d spray their pen, and slowly link the scent of coconut with the science theory they needed to remember. Arguably we ruined coconut for a few students, but it was worth it for the memory boost.

The pens were sent as DM packs to select high-achieving students to show them that Monash were there to foster their academic success, now and in the future.
